Here's where you'll find the answers to many of your Frequently Asked Questions.
WHAT IS COACHING?
Coaching is a conversation between a coach and client exploring a topic or an idea with the goal of making a change and / or creating a new awareness or insight. This is done by a coach through powerful questions, a sense of curiosity and thought partnership. The role of the coach is to challenge, inquiry, expand and actively listen to a client's story, with the goal of creating a new plan that moves you forward. We do this by supporting, reflecting and refining your thoughts throughout the process.
HOW DOES COACHING DIFFER FROM A CONSULTANT, MENTOR OR THERAPIST?
The analogy of a bicycle is found here - In addition to that definition, one of the main differences I see in a coach is the perspective that the coach and client work towards making a change for the future. The viewpoint is how to make a decision, arrive at a new awareness, insight or key learning that will then benefit the client moving forward. We may look at the past but only as it serves to benefit you into the future and what is ahead of you.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR A SESSION?
In a coaching relationship, my role as a coach is follow a process given my training and experience. Your role as a client is to bring a topic to discuss while committing to being open and exploring this topic for your benefit. If you do not have a topic in mind, we'll begin our session and explore together possible discussion areas that may serve you.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE RECOMMENDED?
This answer depends on the topics and areas you would like to work on. Typically bite size themes can be explored with insights and awareness with one or two sessions. For bigger themes that may affect many areas in your life, it's recommended we work in a few sessions in either 3 or 6 at a time. This helps build continuity in our conversations while giving you ample time to explore a variety of topics that may relate to one another. In our connect call, we will explore what will work best for you.
HOW ARE SESSIONS HELD?
In our consultation we will determine what the best fit is for you in partner together in coaching relationship. Typically I've found that coaching sessions over the phone or video can be just as effective as in person face to face. The advantage of being over the phone and video is the opportunity to focus, for both me and you to really narrow down on your word choice, tone and energy.
WHAT IS MY ROLE AS A COACH?
My role as a coach is to partner with you and follow an established process based off my coaching training. Your role as a client is to be open, to explore what ever topic that you wish to pursue and to do so with an open mind and heart. As a coach, I am here to listen, to be curious to stay present, to inquiry and even to challenge the story and assumptions that are being said (and not said). I also have a responsibility to ask and statement observations with no judgement and no attachment. These sessions are for you and whatever serves you best is how I will honour our time together.
